Silver Orphan

I received a galley copy of the "Silver Orphan" from author Martine Lacombe in return for a book review. I was so excited when I was contacted by Martine, and could not believe that I was getting this opportunity, and can only hope I get more like this in the future! When I first started reading this book, I was not sure I was going to be able to finish it or even enjoy it. It continuously jumped from current year to past years, and I found this very difficult to follow at first. After reading a few chapters and “sticking it out” I got really into the story and could not put the book down! This book was amazing! Martine gave a great view of what it would have been like to grow up in years I can only read about, and I can not imagine what that might have been like. The main character “Frank” is often thinking about his past and remembering what his childhood was like; he often looks back and remembers his only “Love” Sophia and how he can only wish that things could have been different. Reading his thoughts and what his life was like and what it could have been like really made me think about my own life! You should always speak up about how you feel towards someone, because you truly do not know when the last time you will see them is. This book gave a great insight on what it may be like for many senior citizens, and how many of them might not have family or friends to turn to. Can you imagine that? No family or friends, how hard that must be! It makes me feel like I should reach out to more people around me and not be so shallow with which I open my life up to, because there are many people that have no one! In the back of the book it even states that Frank was a “Silver Orphan”, one of 11 Million seniors in the U.S who live alone. I feel like I should be more like Brooke in the book, she did not know Frank but was more then willing to open her arms and become friends with Frank, and she was so glad she did, because she was able to unlock a story of a past that no body else ever knew about! I recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a good read, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. If Martine Lacombe has any new books coming out I will be just as excited to read them, as I think she is a wonderful author with a great skill that I hope she continues to share!

I am in no way, shape or form being offered any money to "advertise" this book, only sharing the great story with all of you
